How to Have a Spook-tacular Smart Home Halloween

smart-home-halloween-1

It's time to trick or treat with technology.

Here at AV Design Consultants, we were scratching our pumpkins to try to come up with how we could use the technology in our customers’ smart homes to turn up the volume on their Halloween celebrations. Luckily, we didn't have to think too hard: Technology and Halloween have gone dismembered limb in dismembered limb since Frankenstein's time. No matter how you like your haunted holiday, there are plenty of ways you can take advantage of your smart home to help spread the haunts, howls, and scares.

So, this week on the blog, things are going to be a little bit different. A little bit creepier. A little bit crawlier. And maybe even a little bit candy...er. Let's look at all the boo-tiful benefits you get from having a smart home, and how such technology can help you have the happiest -- and hauntiest -- Halloween possible.

Alluring Lighting

If there's one area you can really go all out with for Halloween, it's lighting.

With smart lights, not only can you easily control your lights from anywhere you want, you can change the color of the lights, as well. Dim lighting for movies marathons, or even bright orange and green hues for your Halloween party proper are all possible, expanding how haunting you can make your home's atmosphere.

Oh, and if you really want to go all out and spook everybody, there's nothing spookier than lights flickering on and off. Preprogram your smart lights to randomly dim, flicker, or turn on and off during your party. It's sure to be a hit with all your guests and might even give you a jump or two!

Eye See You

No matter how many trick-or-treaters you get in your area, it's always safer -- and best practice -- to keep an eye on anybody coming to visit your porch or ring your doorbell.

There are a few different ways you could go about this: The easiest would be with a smart doorbell, which would let you keep an eye and ear on anybody who dares to come ask for candy. You'll can even get live video alerts on your smart phone -- in case you are too busy eating pumpkin pie to keep your eyes glued to your screen all night long.

A smart security system could also handle this for you. Between smart security cameras with night vision and crisp HD video resolution, you'll always be able to keep an eye on all the entries into the house, no matter where you are and no matter what everybody is dressed up as.

Such a robust security system takes some planning, and wouldn't you rather focus on the festivities? Of course! So, leave the hard work to us -- give us a call today at 479-365-2201 and we'd be glad to go over all our special and spooky security package options.

Musical Monster Mash

Sound and audio are much a part of the horror experience, and if you don't believe us, just take a second and see what the first thing is that comes to mind when you think of "Jaws." Dum dum. Dum dum dum dum. Yeah, that's what we thought.

Scary music can definitely set the mood for any occasion, whether you are going with background ambient noises such as whistling wind blowing through branches, gothic organ pipe music, or all-out classic dance tracks like "Thriller."

You don't want your audio to be relegated to just one room, though, which is where your smart speakers and whole home audio system come in. Your haunted howls have never sounded better than with a pair of our hi-fi speakers, we can promise you that.

Project Those Pumpkins

OK, OK, we don't really want you using pumpkins as projectiles! Instead, we do want you using your 4K outdoor projector to host night after night of scary movies.

If there's anything that will make every slasher movie even scarier, it's watching it outside … in the dark … at night. The atmosphere will be unforgettable for your family and friends, and you can bet that you'll be even jumpier when cars drive by or animals rustle by in the brush during your scary screenings.

To really create the best outdoor theater, you can also mix in smart outdoor lighting. This lighting can help light your guests' way to their seats before you easily dim it with your smart phone to really create the ultimate in scary movie watching ambiance.

But no matter what haunts or horrors you want to set up this year, we're by far the best deal in town for your mummy ... er, we mean money. Get ready to really welcome in the ghouls, goblins, and ghosts with new smart home technology -- and give us a call at 479-365-2201 today to get things set up for a Halloween celebration you won't ever forget.
